Fracture of the Trimalleolar
Definition:
A break, especially the breaking of a bone or cartilage in the trimalleolar.
Symptoms:
- Pain in the ankle
- Swelling in the ankle
- Loss of ROM in the ankle
- Bruising
- Possible deformity in the ankle
- Inability to bear weight
- Point tender
Causes:
- Twisting or rotating your ankle
- Rolling your ankle
- Tripping or falling
- Impact during a car accident
Treatment:
- Possible surgical
- Period of immobilization
- Progress to ROM and stretching exercises
- Foot intrinsic muscle strengthening
- Lower extremity strengthening
