Fracture of Tarsal and Metatarsal Bones
Definition:
A break, especially the breaking of a bone or cartilage in the tarsal and metatarsal bones.
Symptoms:
- Pain in the foot
- Swelling in the swelling
- Loss of ROM in the foot
- Bruising
- Instability in foot
Causes:
- Fall
- Heavy object falling on foot
- Heavy object rolling over foot
- Twisting ankle
Treatment:
- Period of immobilization
- Progress to ROM and stretching exercises
- Foot intrinsic muscle strengthening
- Lower extremity strengthening
