Fracture of the Cuneiform

Definition:
A break, especially the breaking of a bone or cartilage in the cuneiform.
Symptoms:
  • Pain with weight bearing on the affected foot
  • Swelling in the foot
  • Point tender on cuneiform
Causes:
  • Fall
  • Direct blow to foot
Treatment:
  • Period of immobilization
  • Progress to ROM and stretching exercises
  • Foot intrinsic muscle strengthening
  • Lower extremity strengthening
