Dislocation of the Foot
Definition:
Displacement of the foot; specifically disturbance or disarrangement of the normal relation of the bones entering into the formation of a joint. The most common foot dislocation is that involves the Lisfranc joint complex.
Symptoms:
Pain in the foot
Swelling in the foot
Loss of ROM in the foot
Possible deformity in foot
Causes:
Direct blow to the foot
Fall
Motor vehicle accident
Rotational forces about a fixed forefoot
Axial loading in a plantar flexed foot
Crush injuries
Treatment:
Period of immobilization
Progress to ROM and stretching exercises
Foot intrinsic muscle strengthening
