Pes Anserinus Tendinitis

Definition:
The 'pes anserinus' ("goose's foot") is the Insertion (anatomy) of the conjoined tendons of three muscles onto the anteromedial (front and inside) surface of the Upper region of tibia.
Symptoms:
  • Chronic medial knee pain
  • Leg weakness
  • Swelling in the medial knee
  • Point tender on the Pes Anserine
Causes:
  • Overuse
  • Repetitive kicking
  • Muscle imbalance- tight hamstrings
  • Supination of the ankle
  • Jumping sports
Treatment:
  • ROM and stretching
  • Soft tissue massage
  • Knee joint stabilization exercises
  • Lower extremity strengthening exercises
