Plantar Fascitis

Definition:
Partial tearing of the plantar fascia ligament that supports the arch of the foot.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the arch of the foot
  • Pain in the heel
  • Worse in the morning when rising
  • Pain with walking, running and sporting activities
Causes:
  • Training error
  • Overuse
  • Faulty running mechanics
  • Improper foot wear
  • Flat feet
  • High arches
  • Improper walking pattern
Treatment:
  • Stretching calves, hamstrings, toes
  • Massage and soft tissue work
  • Biomechanical retraining of walking and running
  • Heel cups
  • Ice massage
