Shoulder Recurrent Dislocation

Definition:
Repeated displacement of the shoulder; specifically disturbance or disarrangement of the normal relation of the bones entering into the formation of a joint.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the shoulder
  • Loss of ROM in the shoulder
  • Numbness in the arm
  • Instability of the shoulder
Causes:
  • Previous shoulder dislocation
  • Fall on an out stretched hand
  • Direct blow
  • Shoulder instability
Treatment:
  • Possible surgical intervention
  • Period of immobilization
  • Progress to ROM and stretching exercise
  • Strengthen shoulder stabilizers
  • Upper extremity strengthening
  • Posture program
