Shoulder DJD Arthritis

Definition:
Arthritis characterized by erosion of articular cartilage of the shoulder, which becomes soft, frayed, and thinned with eburnation of suchondral bone and outgrowths of marginal osteophytes; pain and loss of function result.
Symptoms:
  • Swelling in the shoulder
  • Pain in the shoulder
  • Development of osteophytes
  • Pain with movement of the shoulder
  • Pain in the shoulder with sleeping
  • Loss of ROM in the shoulder
Causes:
  • Wear and tear arthritis
  • Age related
Treatment:
  • ROM and stretching
  • Posture program
  • Shoulder stabilization exercises
  • Upper extremity strengthening
