Sprain/Strain Foot

Definition:
An injury to a ligament of the foot when the joint is carried through a range of motion greater than normal, but without dislocation or fracture; or an injury resulting from tensile force to muscle or tendon of the foot.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the foot
  • Loss of ROM in the foot
  • Tenderness with palpation to the foot
  • Difficulty walking
Causes:
  • Twisting motion
  • Repetitive stress
  • Trauma to foot
Treatment:
  • ROM and stretching
  • Soft tissue massage
  • Foot intrinsic muscle strengthening
  • Lower extremity strengthening
