Sprain/Strain Knee

Definition:
An injury to a ligament of the knee when the joint is carried through a range of motion greater than normal, but without dilocation or fracture; or an injury resulting from tensile force to muscle or tendon of the knee.
Symptoms:
  • Knee pain
  • Swelling in the knee
  • Knee instability
  • Loss of ROM in the knee
Causes:
  • Trauma to the knee
  • Falls
  • Overuse
  • Muscular Weakness/Imbalance
  • Decreased Flexibility
  • Faulty posture
  • Incorrect Footwear
Treatment:
  • ROM and stretching
  • Knee stabilization exercises
  • Lower extremity strengthening
  • Posture program
  • Gait program
