S/P Chondral lesion MFC

Definition:
Repair the articular cartilage lesion on the medial femoral condyle. Surgical options for a chondral lesion MFC: Chondroplasty (debridement) Bone Marrow Stimulating Techniques Microfracture Osteochondral Autograft (OATS) Osteochondral Allograft (Allograft OATS) Autologous Cartilage Implantation (ACI)
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the medial knee
  • Loss of ROM in the knee
  • Pain with weight bearing
  • Locking, catching, grinding
  • Swelling in the knee
Causes:
  • Articular cartilage lesion
Treatment:
  • Period of immobilization
  • Passive ROM, progress to active ROM
  • Massage to reduce swelling
  • Quadriceps activation
  • Non-weight bearing lower extremity strengthening, progress to weight bearing lower extremity strengthening
  • Gait program
