S/P Knee Dislocation Reconstruction MCL
Definition:
The two ends of the MCL are sewn back together with dissolvable sutures if surgery was necessary.
Symptoms:
- Knee swelling
- Locking or catching of the knee with movement
- Pain or tenderness along the outside of the knee
- Knee gives way
Causes:
- Direct blow to the outside of the knee
- Quick stopping while running
- Repetitive stress to medial knee
Treatment:
- Period of immobilization in locked knee immobilizer
- Massage to reduce swelling
- Passive ROM and active ROM
- Quadriceps activation
- Knee stabilization exercises
- Lower extremity strengthening
- Gait program
- Return to running program
