Dislocated foot

Definition:
Displacement of the foot; specifically disturbance or disarrangement of the normal relation of the bones entering into the formation of a joint. The most common of these injuries is a dislocation that involves the Lisfranc joint complex.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the foot
  • Swelling in the foot
  • Loss of ROM in the foot
  • Possible deformity in foot
Causes:
  • Direct blow to the foot
  • Fall
  • Motor vehicle accident
Treatment:
  • Period of immobilization
  • Progress to ROM and stretching exercises
  • Foot intrinsic muscle strengthening
  • Lower extremity strengthening
