Dislocated Toe
Definition:
Displacement of the toe; specifically disturbance or disarrangement of the normal relation of the bones entering into the formation of a joint.
Symptoms:
Pain in the toe
Swelling in the toe
Loss of ROM in the toe
Possible deformity in toe
Causes:
Walking on uneven terrain
Overloading pressure on one portion of the foot or direct trauma to the toe
Heavy object falling on toe
Stubbing toe
Treatment:
Period of immobilization (buddy taping)
Progress to ROM and stretching exercises
Foot intrinsic muscle strengthening
Lower extremity strengthening
