Elbow Sprain/strain

Definition:
An injury to a ligament of the elbow when the joint is carried through a range of motion greater than normal, but without dislocation or fracture; or an injury resulting from tensile force to muscle or tendon of the elbow.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the elbow
  • Stiffness in the elbow
  • Loss of ROM in the elbow
Causes:
  • Forced twisting of the arm
  • Fall on an outstretched hand
  • Direct blow
Treatment:
  • ROM and stretching exercise to elbow
  • Upper extremity strengthening
  • Posture program
