Dislocation Wrist

Definition:
Displacement of the wrist; specifically disturbance or disarrangement of the normal relation of the bones entering into the formation of a joint.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the wrist
  • Loss of ROM in the wrist
  • Possible wrist fracture
  • Swelling in the wrist
  • Point tender on the wrist
Causes:
  • Fall on an outstretched hand
  • Direct blow
Treatment:
  • Period of immobilization
  • Progress to ROM and stretching to wrist
  • Upper extremity strength exercises
  • Wrist stabilization exercises
