Sprain/Strain Forearm

Definition:
An injury to a ligament of the forearm when the joint is carried through a range of motion greater than normal, but without dislocation or fracture; or an injury resulting from tensile force to muscle or tendon of the forearm.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the forearm
  • Loss of ROM in the forearm
  • Pain with elbow, finger or wrist movements
  • Swelling in the forearm
Causes:
  • Trauma
  • Sudden forearm twisting
  • Repetitive motion
Treatment:
  • ROM and stretching
  • Soft tissue massage
  • Hand intrinsic muscle strengthening
  • Upper extremity strengthening
  • Posture program
