Definition:
Inflammation or partial avulsion of the tibial apophysis due to traction forces.
Symptoms:
Painful lumps just below the knee
Most often seen in young adolescents
Intense knee pain worse during activities such as running, jumping, squatting, and especially ascending or descending stairs and during kneeling
Causes:
Excess weight
Overzealous conditioning (running and jumping)
Adolescent bone growth
Treatment:
ROM and stretching
Knee stabilization exercises
