Fractured Clavicle
Definition:
A break, especially the breaking of a bone or cartilage in the clavicle.
Symptoms:
Pain in the front part of the upper chest
Swelling
Fracture can be felt through the skin
Sharp pain when any movement is made
Referred pain: dull to extreme ache in and around clavicle area, including surrounding muscles.
Possible nausea, dizziness, and/or spotty vision due to extreme pain
Causes:
Fall on outstretched hand
Fall onto shoulder
Direct blow
Treatment:
Period of immobilization
Progress to ROM and stretching exercises
Shoulder stabilization exercises
Upper extremity strengthening
