Thoracic Disc Disorders

Definition:
A disturbance of function or structure to the thoracic disc, resulting from a genetic or embryologic failure in development or from exogenous factors such as poison, trauma, or disease.
Symptoms:
  • Limited or painful movement of the upper back
  • Numbness
  • Pain or tingling from the upper back and around the chest
  • Weakness in the legs
  • Pain when coughing, sneezing or taking a deep breath
Causes:
  • Age related degeneration
  • Faulty posture
  • Direct blow
Treatment:
  • ROM and stretching
  • Posture program
  • Core stabilization exercises
  • Lower and upper extremity strengthening
