Epiphyseal Fracture Proximal Phalanx

Definition:
Fracture that involves the growth plate in the proximal finger bone
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the finger
  • Swelling in the finger and hand
  • Loss of ROM in the finger
  • Physical deformity of finger in abduction
Causes:
  • Common in children
  • Heavy object fall on hand
  • Heavy object roll on hand
  • Fall
Treatment:
  • Period of immobilization
  • Progress to ROM and stretching exercises
  • Hand intrinsic muscle strengthening
