Definition:

An injury caused by a crushing blow to the hand is different from all other injuries in the amount and unpredictability of the damage that is caused, the amount of scar tissue and the time required for healing.

Symptoms:

• Pain in the hand
• Loss of ROM in the hand
• Laceration
• Possible fracture

Causes:

• Fall
• Heavy object falling onto hand
• Heavy object rolling over hand
• Direct blow

Treatment:

• Wound care
• ROM and stretching exercise to hand
• Posture program
