Fracture of the Head of the Radius
Definition:
A break, especially the breaking of a bone or cartilage in the head of the radius.
Symptoms:
- Pain on the outside of the elbow
- Swelling in the elbow joint
- Difficulty in bending or straightening the elbow accompanied by pain
- Inability or difficulty in turning the forearm
Causes:
- Fall on an ourstretched hand
- Direct blow
Treatment:
- Period of immobilization
- Progress to ROM and stretching exercises
- Hand intrinsic muscle strengthening
- Upper extremity strengthening
- Possible surgical intervention
