Fracture of the Neck of the Radius

Definition:
A break, especially the breaking of a bone or cartilage in the neck of the radius.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the elbow
  • Swelling in the elbow
  • Bruising in the elbow
  • Stiffness in the elbow
  • Pain with forearm rotation
Causes:
  • Fall on an outstretched hand
  • Direct blow
Treatment:
  • Possible surgical intervention
  • Period of immobilization
  • Progress to ROM and stretching exercises
  • Hand intrinsic muscle strengthening
  • Upper extremity strengthening
