Fracture of the Radius with the Ulna

Definition:
A break, especially the breaking of a bone or cartilage in the radius with the ulna.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the wrist
  • Swelling in the wrist
  • Loss of ROM in the wrist
  • Bruising
  • Possible deformity in the forearm
Causes:
  • Direct blow
  • Fall onto outstretched hand
Treatment:
  • Period of immobilization
  • Progress to ROM and stretching exercises
  • Hand intrinsic muscle strengthening
  • Upper extremity strengthening
