Fracture of the Distal End of the Ulna
Definition:
A break, especially the breaking of a bone or cartilage in the distal end of the ulna.
Symptoms:
- Pain in the wrist
- Swelling in the wrist
- Loss of ROM in the wrist
- Bruising
- Possible deformity in the wrist
Causes:
- Direct blow
- Fall on an outstretched hand
- Heavy object falling onto wrist
Treatment:
- Period of immobilization
- Progress to ROM and stretching exercises
- Hand intrinsic muscle strengthening
- Upper extremity strengthening
