Fracture Distal End of the Radius

Definition:
A break, especially the breaking of a bone or cartilage in the distal end of the radius.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the wrist
  • Point tender in the wrist
  • Bruising
  • Swelling in the wrist
  • Physical deformity
Causes:
  • Fall on an outstretched arm
  • Osteoporosis
  • Trauma
  • Direct blow
Treatment:
  • Period of immobilization
  • Progress to ROM and stretching exercises
  • Hand intrinsic muscle strengthening
  • Upper extremity strengthening
