Sprains and Strain of Ulnohumeral Ligament

Definition:
An injury to the ulnohumeral ligament when the joint is carried through a range of motion greater than normal, but without dislocation or fracture; or an injury resulting from tensile force to the ligament.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the elbow
  • Loss of ROM in the elbow
  • Swelling in the elbow
  • Point tender to medial elbow
Causes:
  • Direct trauma to elbow
  • Repetitive elbow or wrist movements
  • Sharp twist to elbow
  • Degeneration
Treatment:
  • ROM and stretching
  • Soft tissue massage
  • Elbow stabilization exercises
  • Upper extremity strengthening
  • Hand intrinsic muscle strengthening
  • Posture program
