Crushing Injury of the Elbow

Definition:
An injury caused by a crushing blow to the elbow is different from all other injuries in the amount and unpredictability of the damage that is caused, the amount of scar tissue and the time required for healing.
Symptoms:
  • Laceration
  • Possible fracture
  • Pain in the elbow
  • Possible bleeding
  • Stiffness in the elbow
  • Numbness in the forearm and hand
Causes:
  • Fall onto elbow
  • Direct blow
  • Entrapment
Treatment:
  • Wound care
  • ROM and stretching exercises to elbow
  • Posture program
