Villonodular Synovitis of the Hand
Definition:
Proliferation of synovial tissue of the hand, composed of synovial villi and fibrous nodules infiltrated by giant cells and macrophages.
Symptoms:
- Swelling in the hand
- Pain in the hand, especially with movement
- Sudden onset
- Loss of ROM in the hand
- Hand feels warm to touch
Treatment:
- ROM and stretching
- Upper extremity strengthening
- Hand intrinsic muscle strengthening
- Possible surgical intervention
