Calcification of the Hand

Definition:
A process in which tissue or noncellular material in the hand becomes hardened as the result of precipitates or larger deposits of insoluble salts of calcium, especially calcium carbonate and phosphate normally occurring only in the formation of bone and teeth.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the hand
  • Stiffness in the hand
  • Loss of ROM in the hand
Causes:
  • Osteoarthritis
Treatment:
  • ROM and stretching
  • Strengthening muscles in the hand
