Fracture of the base of Other Metacarpal Bones
Definition:
A break, especially the breaking of a bone or cartilage in the base of the metacarpal bone.
Symptoms:
- Pain in the hand
- Swelling in the swelling
- Loss of ROM in the hand/wrist
- Bruising
Causes:
- Fall
- Sports injury
- Punching an object/Fist fight
Treatment:
- Period of immobilization
- Progress to ROM and stretching exercises
- Hand intrinsic muscle strengthening
- Upper extremity strengthening
