Hip DJD

Definition:
Arthritis characterized by erosion of articular cartilage of the hip which becomes soft, frayed, and thinned with eburnation of subchondral bone and outgrowths of marginal osteophytes; pain and loss of function result.
Symptoms:
  • Pain the hip
  • Swelling in the hip
  • Loss of ROM in the hip
  • Pain with walking
  • Altered gait pattern
  • Stiffness in the hip
Causes:
  • Hip joint injury
  • Age related
  • Overweight
  • Genetic factor
Treatment:
  • ROM and stretching exercises
  • Lower extremity strengthening exercises
  • Gait program
