Dislocated Wrist

Definition:
Displacement of the wrist; specifically disturbance or disarrangement of the normal relation of the bones entering into the formation of a joint.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the wrist or forearm
  • Swelling in the wrist
  • Loss of ROM in the wrist
  • Possible deformity in wrist
Causes:
  • Fall on an outstretching hand
  • Direct blow to wrist
Treatment:
  • Period of immobilization
  • Progress to ROM and stretching exercises
  • Hand intrinsic muscle strengthening
  • Upper extremity strengthening
