Sprains and Strain Unspecified (Wrist)

Definition:
An injury to a ligament of the wrist when the joint is carried through a range of motion greater than normal, but without dislocation or fracture; or an injury resulting from tensile force to muscle or tendon of the wrist.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the wrist
  • Swelling in the wrist
  • Tenderness and warmth around the injury
  • Feeling a popping or tearing in the wrist
  • Bruising in the wrist
Causes:
  • Fall
  • Direct blow to wrist
  • Repetitive movements in the wrist
Treatment:
  • ROM and stretching
  • Hand intrinsic muscle strengthening
  • Wrist stabilization
  • Upper extremity strengthening
  • Posture program
