Sprains and Strain of the Radioulnar Joint

Definition:
An injury to the radioulnar joint when the joint is carried through a range of motion greater than normal, but without dislocation or fracture; or an injury resulting from tensile force to the joint.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the medial wrist
  • Swelling in the medial wrist
  • Point tenderness to medial wrist
Causes:
  • Fall on an outstretched hand
  • Direct blow
  • Repetitive movements
Treatment:
  • ROM and stretching
  • Hand intrinsic muscle strengthening
  • Upper extremity strengthening
  • Ergonomics training
