Villonodular Synovitis of the Forearm

Definition:
Proliferation of synovial tissue of the forearm, composed of synovial villi and fibrous nodules infiltrated by giant cells and macrophages.
Symptoms:
  • Swelling in the forearm
  • Pain in the forearm, especially with movement
  • Sudden onset
  • Loss of ROM in the forearm
  • Forearm feels warm to touch
Causes:
  • Idiopathic
Treatment:
  • ROM and stretching
  • Upper extremity strengthening
  • Possible surgical intervention
