Bucket Handle Tear Medial Meniscus

Definition:

A tear in one of the menisci of a knee joint, near the rim and following its curvature, which can allow a flap of cartilage to impede movement of the joint.

Symptoms:

Intermittent locking of the knee
Unable to fully extend knee
Swelling in the knee
Pain with full knee flexion
Point tender on joint line

Causes:

Twisting and pivoting the knee
Squatting and twisting the knee
Direct blow to knee
Degeneration

Treatment:

Knee ROM and stretching exercises
Strengthening exercises for lower extremity
Possible surgical intervention
