The medial collateral ligament (MCL) in a band of tissue that extends from your femur to your tibia on the inside of your knee. It protects the knee from overextending inward providing stability and allowing some rotation. It is most commonly torn to due a traumatic event. Sometimes surgery is necessary but not usually.
Symptoms:
Pain in the knee
Stiffness in the knee
Swelling in the knee
Tenderness along the inside of the knee
A feeling that your knee may give way under stress or may lock or catch
