Knee Laxity Anterior Translation Tibia on Femur
Definition:
A discontinuity of the anterior cruciate ligament in the knee.
Symptoms:
- Knee instability
- Knee swelling
- Severe pain when bending the knee
Causes:
- Most common in high impact sports
- Knee hyperextension
- The lower leg is forced forward in relation to the upper leg
- Direct impact from the front of the thigh while the lower leg is in a stable position
Treatment:
- Possible surgical intervention
- Cryotherapy
- Progressing to knee ROM and strengthening exercises
- Core stabilization exercises
