Knee Anterior Lateral Rotary Instability

Definition:
The state of being unstable, or lacking stability in the anterior lateral knee. The abnormal tendency of a joint to subluxate or dislocate with normal activities and stresses.
Symptoms:
  • Instability in the knee
  • Pain with walking
  • Swelling in the knee
  • Stiffness in the knee
Causes:
  • Disruption of ACL or LCL
  • Laxity in the lateral capsule
  • Lateral capsule tear
  • Lateral meniscus tear
Treatment:
  • Possible surgical intervention
  • ROM and stretching
  • Knee stabilization exercises
  • Lower extremity strengthening exercises
