Knee Posterior Lateral Rotary Instability

Definition:
The state of being unstable, or lacking stability in the anterior lateral knee. The abnormal tendency of a joint to subluxate or dislocate with normal activities and stresses.
Symptoms:
  • Tenderness on the posterior lateral corner
  • Instability in the knee
  • Pain in the knee
  • Swelling in the knee
  • Stiffness in the knee
Causes:
  • Direct blow
  • Hyperextension
  • Arcuate ligament tear
  • Disruction to LCL, PCL
Treatment:
  • Possible surgical intervention
  • ROM and stretching
  • Knee stabilization exercises
  • Lower extremity strengthening exercises
