Definition:
A defect in the cartilage covering the articular surface of the medial
compartment of the knee.
Symptoms:
- Localized or diffuse knee pain
- Recurrent swelling, locking or catching
- Pain in the medial knee
- Loss of range of motion in the knee
Causes:
- Fall onto the knee
- Mechanical malalignment
- Repetitive jumping
- Twisting injury
- Osteoarthritis
Treatment:
- Possible surgical intervention
- Progress to knee ROM and strengthening exercises
- Correct gait mechanics
- Quadriceps strengthening and stretching
