Dislocation or Subluxation of Patella
Definition:
An incomplete luxation or displacement of the patella; although a relationship is altered, contact between joint surfaces remains.
Symptoms:
- Pain in the knee
- Swelling in the knee
- Loss of ROM in the knee
- Weakness in the affected leg
Causes:
- Direct blow
- Sudden twist of the leg
- Slip and fall
Treatment:
- Period of immobilization
- Progress to ROM and stretching exercise
- Lower extremity strengthening exercise
- Stabilization exercises
