Medial Dislocation of the Tibia

Definition:
Displacement of the tibia medially; specifically disturbance or disarrangement of the normal relation of the bones entering into the formation of a joint.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the knee
  • Instability in the knee
  • Swelling in the knee
  • Deformity of the knee
Causes:
  • Valgus force to the knee
  • Fall
  • Disruption of ACL or MCL
  • Laxity in the medial capsule
  • Medial capsule tear
Treatment:
  • Possible surgical intervention
  • ROM and stretching
  • Knee stabilization exercises
  • Lower extremity strengthening exercises
