Villonodular Synovitis of the Lower Leg and Knee

Definition:

Proliferation of synovial tissue of the head neck and spine, composed of synovial villi and fibrous nodules infiltrated by giant cells and macrophages.

Symptoms:

Swelling in the knee
Pain in the knee, especially with movement
Sudden onset
Loss of ROM in the knee
Knee feels warm to touch

Causes:

Idiopathic

Treatment:

ROM and stretching
Lower extremity strengthening
Possible surgical intervention
Core stabilization exercises
