Fractured Tibia and Fibula
Definition:
A break, especially the breaking of a bone or cartilage in the tibia and fibula.
Symptoms:
- Pain in the lower leg
- Swelling in the lower leg
- Physical deformity in the lower leg
- Compartment syndrome
Causes:
- Direct blow
- Sports collisions
- Motor vehicle accident
Treatment:
- Period of immobilization
- Progress to ROM and stretching exercises
- Foot intrinsic muscle strengthening
- Lower extremity strengthening
