Contracture of the Shoulder

Definition:
A condition characterized by stiffness and pain in your shoulder joint. Signs and symptoms typically begin gradually, worsen over time and then resolve, usually within one or two years.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the shoulder
  • Pain with movements in the shoulder
  • Loss of ROM in the shoulder
  • Stiffness in the shoulder and neck
Causes:
  • History of trauma
  • Injury
  • Tightness in neck and shoulder muscles
  • Tightness in tendons
Treatment:
  • ROM and stretching exercises
  • Shoulder stabilization exercises
  • Upper extremity strengthening exercises
