Effusion of the Upper Arm
Definition:
The escape of fluid from the blood vessels or lymphatic into the upper arm.
Symptoms:
- Deep, aching pain in the upper arm
- May feel warm to touch
- Stiffness in the upper arm
- Loss of ROM in the upper arm
Causes:
- Trauma
- Inflammation
- Infection
- Osteoarthritis
Treatment:
- Cryotherapy
- ROM and stretching exercises
- Shoulder stabilization exercises
- Shoulder strengthening exercises
