Stiffness in the Shoulder
Definition:
Nonspecific term for limited shoulder mobility, often due to muscle cramps and spasm accompanied by pain.
Symptoms:
- Loss of ROM in the shoulder
- Swelling in the shoulder
- Pain in the shoulder
Causes:
- Herniated disc in the neck
- Neck pain
- Muscle sprain/strain
- Frozen shoulder
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Bursitis
- Tendinitis
- Labrum tear
- Cartilage tear
- Dislocation
- Osteoarthritis
- Impingement
- Inflammation
- Calcific tendinitis
Treatment:
- ROM and stretching exercises
- Upper extremity strengthening
- Posture program
